CAR T-cell Therapy: Harnessing the Body’s Immune System to Fight Cancer

Dr. Joseph McGuirk, division director of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics (HMCT) at the University of Kansas Cancer Center

Join PAMN members at noon CST Oct. 9 to kick off the organization’s Webinar series with “CAR T-cell Therapy: Harnessing the Body’s Immune System to Fight Cancer,” sponsored by Doximity.

The Webinar features Dr. Joseph McGuirk, division director of Hematologic Malignancies and Cellular Therapeutics (HMCT) at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. He also serves as the Schutte-Speas Professor in Hematology-Oncology there. McGuirk and the KU team enrolled the first adult patient in the nation in the Novartis’ B-cell Lymphoma CAR T clinical trial.

In CAR T or chimeric antigen receptor therapy, doctors extract a patient’s T cells, genetically engineer them to fight cancer, grow millions of the new cells and return them to the patient’s body.
