Message from the Chair: Contributing to Cancer’s Decline

The New Year arrived with exciting news: In 2019, we witnessed the biggest single-year reduction in cancer rates since record-keeping began 90 years ago. As The Associated Press reported, “the drop in deaths seems to have been accelerated by recent lung cancer treatment advances.”

Our researchers and clinicians led the way, of course. Let’s also acknowledge our work as communications, marketing and outreach professionals to promote healthier living, including screenings, and leading-edge care at our academic medical centers. Effective communications and outreach – the core of what we do – saves lives.

Communicating even more effectively is central to what PAMN offers our members, from our webinars to the NACCDO-PAMN Annual Conference. If you’d like to be a part of the team that develops and executes such programming, have your cancer center host a future conference. We’re looking for sites for 2023 and beyond. For more information, download a Request for Proposal outlining the host responsibilities.

If you’re looking to advance your own skill set and marketability, consider running for election to the PAMN Steering Committee. We’re seeking candidates for nine open seats, with the term running from June 2020 to April 2022. The registration deadline is 5 p.m. ET on May 15. Additional details are available here.
