Message from the Chair: OKC is the place to be

What do professional development, networking, mechanical-bull riding and a haunted hotel have in common? … Oklahoma City, site of PAMN’s next annual conference!

PAMN Chair Jim Goodwin, Associate Director of Strategic Communication, Siteman Cancer Center

Planning is underway for the April 8-11 event, which will include sessions for digital communicators, crisis communications managers, and healthcare marketers and strategists, to name a few of our niche audiences. Unlike other marketing and communications conferences that address topics in cookie-cutter fashion, without regard to where attendees work, this conference is produced by and for people at top academic cancer centers.

Our smart and dedicated group of conference planners recently toured Oklahoma City to learn where we’ll be and what we’ll see, and to develop the conference curriculum. Watch for details in the months ahead.

Our host, the newly NCI-designated Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma, is the epitome of graciousness. They are excited to share the unique flavor of OKC, including the main conference site, the historic Skirvin Hotel, host to visiting NBA teams and, perhaps, a ghost. As for mechanical-bull riding, of course Oklahoma City has that – and a multitude of trendy restaurants, bars and other venues that are perfect for the networking opportunities PAMN also is known for.

So, save the date: April 8-11 in Oklahoma City. That gives you seven months to find the perfect pair of cowboy boots, or water shoes. OKC has whitewater rafting, too.
